An Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) is a translational research centre with both laboratory and clinical facilities and expertise. The resources available in an ECMC allow the safe, rapid and rational evaluation of new cancer treatments, and the development and application of novel biomarkers to facilitate late stage clinical trials and the evolution of personalised medicine.
What is Experimental Cancer Medicine
Translational cancer research can be defined as the expolitation of the results of basic scientific research for the benefit of cancer patients. Experimental cancer medicine encompasses those aspects of translational research that involve studies in patients or patient material in the context of clinical investigation
Other Experimental Medicine Centres
ECMCs are one of several types of facility conducting experimental medicine research in the UK. Further information on over 40 such facilities is available from the UKCRC Experimental Medicine Resources website.
