Facilities

Phase 1 Capability

Phase 1 population
Adult and paediatric; solid tumours and haematology

Phase 1 Mechanisms

  • Cytotoxics (e.g. taxanes, anthraquinone, topoisomerase I inhibitors)
  • Targeted therapies (e.g. CDK inhibitor, EGFR inhibitor)
  • Biotherapies (e.g. vaccines, reovirus, dendritic cells)
  • Pharmacokinetics/pharmacokinetic (e.g. drug interaction, tumour vs normal tissue drug levels)

Technology/equipment within the centre

  • Pathology: tissue microarrays, expression and CGH arrays with Agilent and Affymetrix scanners; 10 terabyte digital repository for pathology images
  • Mass spectrometry (SELDI, imaging mass spectrometry, LC-MS/MS), 2D-PAGE, robotic liquid handling, robotic spot cutting and gel management systems, RAID 5 Opteron/Xeon co-processor data processing and storage (10 terabyte) system for proteomic data
  • Biotherapy: the production of cell derived vaccines and cellular targeting of viruses in the NBS facility.
  • Imaging: CT PET; full range of imaging capacity in the new Oncology wing; expertise in multi-modality spectroscopy
  • GCLP Clinical Trials Pharmacology Laboratory (Bradford) has a wide range of analytical equipment for pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies as described in the research proposal.
  • The Centre for MR Investigation (Hull) has 3 scanners (1.5T and 3.0T) for both imaging and spectroscopy studies
