Goals

Goals and Objectives

  • Deliver excellence in translational cancer research; conduct clinical trials to the highest ethical and scientific standards; strengthen and expand the evidence base for the management of malignant disease, resulting in improved patient care and improved access to novel clinical trials.
  • The Centre will work closely with the Disease Leads to promote clinical trial involvement in areas that are currently under-represented in both early phase and late phase trials. Specifically, we aim within two years to exceed the National guidelines for clinical trial involvement in cancer and the goal is to increase clinical trial involvement to 20% by the end of this funding period.
  • Increase recruitment of patients in clinical trials
  • Increase number of trials open and enrolling
  • Increase diversity of clinical trials across all cancer types
  • Increase funding for clinical trials

Centre expertise

  • The Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre at Barts and The London will work within the existing and expanding NTRAC network.
  • Institute of Cancer is already a Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre and as such has close relationships with numerous cancer researchers and clinicians.
  • The Centre will work closely within National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI), alongside the National Cancer Research Network (NCRN) and be fully coordinated with the UK Clinical Research Collaboration's (UKCRC) activities in experimental medicine outside cancer.
  • The specific areas in which this Centre will contribute to the network relate to the noted strengths of the Institute of Cancer particularly in:
    • Delivery of gene therapy
    • Novel biomarkers of disease
    • Biological and cellular therapies
    • Cancer imaging and radioisotope delivery
    • Pharmacokinetics
