ECMC Consumer Involvement Sheffield
20th July 2010
Sheffield ECMC, one of the Centres at the forefront of consumer-led activity, brought together research nurses, patients from across the Network and fellow NCRI Consumer Liaison Group members to discuss how best to involve the patient community and further develop Patient & Public Involvement (PPI).
The highly successful meeting provided an interactive and engaging platform to celebrate the key achievements of the Centre and its future remit. All aspects of the early phase clinical trial process were explored, taking those involved in the meeting on the Experimental Cancer Medicine journey, from the laboratory to the patient’s bedside. The meeting provided the impetus to build upon the framework currently set in place by the ECMC Network.
This will be achieved by leading activity, which is of mutual benefit to the research and patient population, whilst providing the appropriate support for its growing membership. Moving forward and with the support of the major cancer research stakeholder partners, the initiative will include a clear strategy, aims and tangible objectives to develop a National ECMC PPI Network.
