ECMC Annual Network Meeting 2010
14th May 2010
The first ECMC Annual Network meeting was held at the Royal College of Physicians in London on 14th May 2010, replacing the ECMC Late Phase Forum run in previous years. The meeting was attended by over 120 delegates and provided an excellent opportunity for networking.
The morning plenary session was chaired by Professor John Gribben (Barts ECMC) and focussed on progress made in experimental cancer medicine and future opportunities for the Network. Speakers included Joseph Pater (Cancer Care Ontario, Canada), Chris Wilks (Astra Zeneca) and David Cameron (National Cancer Research Network).
Two parallel sessions were run in the afternoon:
1) Leads meeting / Cancer Research UK’s Drug Development Office (DDO) Phase I/II trials workshop
A brief session was run to update ECMC Leads, senior investigators and other stakeholders on plans to run an ECMC Quinquennial Review in 2011. This was followed by a session run the DDO showcasing a number of early phase trials
2) Sample handling workshop
Jointly run by three of the ECMC Network Groups (Bio-analysis and Quality Assurance, Early Phase Clinical and Translational Research Nurses and Operational), this session enabled Centre staff to share experiences in collecting and storing patient samples for research and the regulatory requirements associated with it.
