The recent press and TV coverage below highlights some of the work and achievements of ECMC Centres and the Network as a whole.

 

Cambridge News

6th December 2010
Following the Cambridge ECMC’s Open Day in November 2010, Cambridge News reported on the groundbreaking
research taking in place and highlighted the importance of patients participating in trials in a double page feature. Centre Lead, Carlos Caldas, explained the aims of the work, with further quotes from a Research Nurse and two patients who have participated on studies. Click here to read the full article.

 

The Telegraph

4th December 2010

The ECMC Network received extensive coverage in a six page article on the fight against cancer. The feature included stories of a number of cancer patients;looking at the impact that cancer had on them and their families; their treatment journeys and participation in early phase trials. The importance of testing new therapies and the role that ECMCs play was also highlighted. The work of individual ECMCs,namely: Glasgow, Leeds, Newcastle, and Southampton, was also mentioned. Belfast Telegraph

8th-12th March 2010
The Belfast Telegraph published a series of feature articles (including front page coverage on Monday 8th March 2010) on the pioneering work taking place at Belfast ECMC to develop better cancer treatments. The role of the scientists and clinicians in developing new anti-cancer drugs was outlined, with interviews with some of the researchers involved, including Belfast ECMC Lead, Ken Mills. The Scotsman

19th March 2010
The Scotsman reported on a new brain tumour imaging trial at Edinburgh ECMC. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is being used to map the functional parts of the brain to inform surgery for brain tumour patients. Click here to read the full article.

STV (Scotland's ITV franchise)

4th December 2009
STV broadcast a news report on Glasgow ECMC, focusing on how cancer patient participation in early trials is helping in the development of innovative anti-cancer treatments. Their work was described as ‘A pioneering cancer programme that could revolutionise the way patients are treated by tailoring their needs’ and featured interviews with a patient and Glasgow ECMC Lead Professor Jim Cassidy. Coinciding with the ECMC showcase session at the NCRI Conference in October 2009, The Independent on Sunday printed a double-page feature on the Network They described ECMCs as ‘Centres of excellence working round the clock in the UK which have created a revolutionary fast-track approach to drug trials and therapies’ and included a case study from a doctor, nurse and patient.
