AstraZeneca / ECMC Combinations Alliance News
7th July 2010
The AstraZeneca / ECMC combinations alliance has been established to encourage collaboration on early phase combination studies between AstraZeneca, Cancer Research UK’s Drug Development Office (DDO) and the ECMC Network. The alliance aims to benefit ECMCs, by providing access to novel agents, enhancing their trial portfolio and establishing a model for future industry collaborations.
A call for Expressions of Interest (EoI) was made to Centres, for the four combinations initially made available to the alliance, resulting in an impressive 73% response rate. All potential studies will need to be peer reviewed and endorsed through the New Agents Committee (NAC) and successful EoI applicants have been asked to prepare the NAC application(s) ready for the November meeting. In the spirit of collaboration, applicants for the same combination are requested to work together to develop both the NAC application and the protocol. The DDO is working closely with each potential sponsor of these studies to look at the individual feasibility of local sponsorship and to get an understanding of where additional support may be necessary.
A joint steering committee has been set up to oversee the initiative. The overarching processes that will govern the alliance, progress and timelines for the initial studies and potential future combination plans were considered by the committee in late June. Further details to follow.
If you would to like information about how you can get involved with the alliance, please contact Kate Miller. We are also planning a series of early phase combination workshops to develop ideas for future combinations. If you are a principal investigator at an ECMC and would like to get involved in the workshops please contact Pamela Todd, with your areas of interest and expertise.
