The winners of the 2017 Greater Manchester Clinical Research Awards were revealed during an evening of celebration on Thursday 9 November. Staff from across the region’s Trusts and GP practices gathered in Manchester city centre for the fifth-annual ceremony to toast excellence in health research delivery.  Individuals and teams were rewarded for their efforts across 10 categories, while special awards were also presented to an extra four outstanding recipients.

Greater Manchester Clinical Research Network received almost 160 nominations across ten award categories this year – the highest number in the five years since the inaugural awards were launched in 2013.  The awards acknowledge the valuable research delivery achievements made by individuals and teams.

Dr Ananya Choudhury from the Christie NHS Foundation Trust/University of Manchester triumphed in the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ category. Her research focuses on radiotherapy-related research in bladder and prostate cancers. She is also clinical project lead at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust for the MR-Linac.  Dr Choudhury said: ‘One of my proudest achievements is being the clinical lead for The Christie’s revolutionary new radiotherapy machine, MR-Linac.  It was a privilege to receive this award.’

Wes Dale, General Manager, Medical Director’s Office, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am delighted that the high calibre of our work has been recognised in such a competitive field and among our regional NHS peers.”
