Activity in Leicester ECMC to support COVID efforts

Whilst continuing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their trials' patients, Leicester's ECMC research nurses have supported three large COVID trials.

The RECOVERY trial has recently received international attention, with dexamethasone reducing deaths by up to one third in patients with severe respiratory complications from COVID-19. Leicester is the highest recruiting site in the UK for the RECOVERY trial.

Leicester is part of ISARIC (International Severe Acute Respiratory International Consortium) and is also one of 231 active sites worldwide participating in the REMAP-CAP trial. The UK is currently the highest worldwide recruiter to this trial.

Hannah Holdsworth, one of Leicester's ECMC research nurses says: "Although this has been a very demanding time, it has been an extremely positive experience".
