Join the ECMC Bladder Network Group

18 Apr 2023
The Barts, Glasgow, King's Health Partners and Southampton ECMCs have the pleasure to announce the foundation of the ECMC Bladder Network Group. This group aims to bring together a range of collaborators with specialist interests in urothelial cancer trials and ground-breaking translational research opportunities.

The ECMC Bladder Network Group will be coordinated by Barts ECMC and is co-led by Professor Thomas Powles, Professor Rob Jones, Professor Syed Hussain and Professor Simon Crabb, providing an active platform which connects across the whole ECMC network.  The early career and surgical investigators of the group will be represented by Dr Bernadett Szabados from Barts ECMC while investigator initiated translational research will be coordinated by Charlotte Ackerman at Barts ECMC.

The group will engage in collaborative clinical and translational research activities and will have an active pharma engagement strategy for developing national and international links. Research interests include but not limited to early disease (non-muscle invasive bladder cancer), perioperative trials, combination clinical trials, Immunotherapy, antibody-drug conjugates, development of digital biomarkers and data integration.

Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) is at the forefront of the ECMC Bladder Network Group which aims to raise awareness of clinical trials and improve the experience of trial patients.

Aims:
  • Develop strategies for attracting more early and later phase bladder cancer trials within the ECMC.
  • Increase collaborative opportunities across uro-oncology centres in the UK,
  • Develop and execute innovative academic led urothelial cancer studies.
  • Improve access to trials via increasing and improving working links with industry.
  • Establish platforms to share information about trials and trial-associated translational projects.
  • Increase career and trials training opportunities for young investigators interested in uro-oncology
  • Work with patient and public representatives to develop trials as key stakeholders
