Centre overview
Our Imperial College London adult experimental cancer medicine centre (ECMC) focuses on translational medical oncology, surgery and interventional science, cancer imaging and patient and public involvement. It also holds expertise in advanced imaging, metabolomics, surgical innovation and immunotherapy.
The centre is an international leader in treating prostate cancer, gynaecological, gestational trophoblastic, breast, haematologic and colorectal cancers.

Key contacts

Iain McNeish - Centre co-lead
Iain McNeish is a Professor of Oncology and Head of the Division of Cancer at Imperial College London. He directs the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre, co-leads Imperial NIHR Biomedical Research Centre’s Surgery and Cancer theme and chairs the Gynaecologic Cancer Intergroup for ovarian cancer. His research focuses on ovarian cancer, leading BriTROC and advancing novel therapies.

Hashim Ahmed - Centre co-lead
Hashim Ahmed, Chair of Urology at Imperial College London, is an expert in imaging, diagnosis and minimally invasive surgical techniques for treating prostate cancer. Hashim is also Section Lead for Speciality Surgery and Chair of the UK Prostate Cancer Research Strategy Group. His interests are in health technology assessment and novel trial designs that lead to changes in clinical practice.

Paul Craven - Centre business co-lead
Paul Craven is Director of Research Operations and leads the Imperial Joint Research Office. The office is responsible for managing and administering all research grants and contracts received by the two organisations, as well as the set-up and delivery of all clinical research studies in the Trust. Paul is responsible for the operational delivery of the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre.

Naina Patel - Centre business co-lead
Naina Patel is the Cancer Research UK Core Resource Manager and manages the experimental cancer medicine centre/Imperial College Biomedical Research Centre Laboratory, which helps coordinate and perform translational work for early clinical cancer trials and studies. Her team provides biobanking, histology and biostatistical analyses for experimental cancer medicine centre-supported projects.

Kelly Gleason - Patient and public involvement lead
Kelly Gleason is the Imperial Cancer Research UK Lead Nurse. She runs the Imperial Patient and Public Group for Cancer, an extensive group of 80 members. Kelly supports the patient representatives at Imperial by co-facilitating science communication workshops, participating in patient involvement training for students and staff and leading events.
