Cardiff paediatric centre
This centre is located at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and delivers paediatric and teenage and young adult cancer care across dedicated inpatient, day care and outpatient facilities.
Centre overview
Our Cardiff paediatric experimental cancer medicine centre (ECMC) is the Principal Treatment Centre for South Wales. It’s supported by the Children and Young Adult Research Unit, Wales’ first purpose-built research unit for children and young adults.
The centre delivers early-and late-phase trials and translational and pharmacology studies. It accepts UK-wide referrals, with onsite accommodation supporting families who travel for trial participation.
There is also an adult centre in Cardiff.

Madeleine Adams - Centre lead
Madeleine Adams is a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist and lead for this centre. She is the departmental clinical lead and looks after children and young people with solid tumours and brain tumours. She has expertise in sarcoma and paediatric cancer predisposition and is a member of national research groups and advisory panels for these.

Rhian Thomas-Turner - Centre co-lead
Rhian Thomas Turner is Head of Paediatric Research Operations and Strategy at the Children and Young Adults Research Unit, based at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. She leads the strategic and operational delivery of a diverse paediatric research portfolio spanning neonatology, rare diseases, oncology, genetics and experimental medicine.

Ceri Hogg - Centre co-lead / Early-phase (lead) paediatric research nurse/clinical nurse specialist
Ceri Hogg is an Early-Phase Research Nurse at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales, where she specialises in delivering pioneering early–phase paediatric clinical trials that shape the future of child health. Ceri has over twenty five years of clinical experience in haematology, oncology and bone marrow transplantation, caring for paediatric and teenage and young adult populations.
