JING: Training the Next Generation 2023

16 Mar 2023
Last month (Feb-23), we held the 10th annual Junior Investigator Network Group (JING): Training the Next Generation event. About 100 people from across the ECMC network attended the two-day event in Leicester, to learn more about early phase trial design. This course is a mixture of lectures and interactive sessions, including advice on attendees’ own study ideas from senior investigators across the ECMC network and from a range of experts.
JING supports junior investigators across the ECMC network from early in their career right through to becoming independent investigators. The event brings together trainees from clinical and non-clinical disciplines giving them the opportunity to network with, and learn from, experienced members of faculty and each other.
“Excellent event for networking with adult and paediatric colleagues. Excellent to learn about patient and public involvement and to receive feedback on presentations.” – said one of the attendees.
Day one included presentations on topics including use of statistics, funding, working with ethics committees and genomics. Day two included a session on involving people affected by cancer in research. The majority of the rest of the day was spent in small groups where trainees presented their study ideas and received feedback and input from faculty members and their peers.
Thank you to all who attended and contributed to this meeting.
Call for new JING Steering Committee members
We are looking for new members to join the ECMC JING Steering Committee. This is a great opportunity as members will have the chance to:
  • Shape the agenda for the JING: Training the Next Generation event
  • Network with other scientists/clinicians (from the adult and paediatric ECMCs across the UK) who are establishing themselves as independent researchers
  • Increase your understanding of the ECMC and contribute to its evolving role in drug development
Further details on the role and steering committee can be seen in this advert
If you are interested in applying to be part of the steering committee, please do the following:
  • Send the ECMC Programme Office (hannah.brown@cancer.org.uk) your CV and a covering letter/email explaining why you would like to be on the steering committee
  • Send through these documents by Friday 24 March
The ECMC Programme Office will get back to all applicants regarding their decision by the end of April.
